It's About Time! Bye-Bye Rasner!
It is now official! Darrell Rasner has been removed from the starting rotation for the second time in two months. The first time was in the beginning of August when Dan Giese replaced him, but lucky for Rasner, Giese got hurt and Rasner got his spot back. Now in September, Alfredo Aceves is replacing Rasner in the rotation after Aceves pitched 5 innings in relief of Rasner in his latest terrible outing against the Rays on Thursday. Aceves, with his odd jersey number choice of 91 and all, was very impressive Thursday night as he gave up 5 hits, giving up one run, striking out four and walking two in his 5 innings of work. This following his impressive major league debut back on August 31 against the Jays, as Aceves pitched 2 perfect innings, striking out three. Aceves, signed as an undrafted free agent from the Mexican League in March, got noticed by fans and Yankee front office officials as he was blowing away hitters in the minor leagues. He was 8-6 with a 2.62 ERA in 25 games (23 starts) at Class A Tampa, Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. "Aceves is a guy, we thought when we signed him that he could move quickly, and he has," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said. Oh yeah he has! Let's just hope he pitches as well as he did Thursday night on Tuesday night in Anaheim.
