Mike "The Savior" Pelfrey? Maybe!

For the last few years, two words have been associated with Mike Pelfrey: losing and bust. Time and time again the Mets would call him up, only to see him implode on the mound just about every start. So they sent him down a bunch of times, only for him to implode again when they recalled him. So this year Pelfrey won a starting job out of spring training, but he was better when the season started. He had some rough patches, a bunch of rough starts, but was ok. Then his season turned around after the Mets replaced Willie Randolph with Jerry Manuel on June 17. Since then Pelfrey has arguably been the best pitcher on the Mets. With Manuel as manager, Pelfrey has gone an amazin' 10-2 (2 no-decisions) with a 3.58 ERA, 59 Ks, 21 BBs and 2 straight complete games on August 20 and 25. Wow! Talk about heating up and lighting fires under players' butts, well that certainly seems to be the case with Pelfrey. And if the Mets make the playoff like I predicted they would, it might just be because Pelfrey has stepped up huge since June 17.
